Vintage 14K Gold Maximiliano Emperador Coin Ring

This vintage gold coin ring is so unique and pretty on the hand!

An unusual piece featuring a coin with the words Maximiliano Emperador. This appears to refer to Maximilian I of Mexico, born Ferdinand Maximilian Joseph in 1832, who was an Austrian archduke installed as Emperor of Mexico by French forces in 1864. His reign was part of a broader imperial project by Napoleon III of France.

Policies: Maximilian attempted to implement liberal reforms, including land redistribution and support for education. However, his reign was plagued by conflicts with Mexican Republicans led by Benito Juárez, who opposed foreign rule.

By 1866, the French forces supporting Maximilian began withdrawing under pressure from the United States and due to mounting financial and military difficulties in Europe. Abandoned by the French, Maximilian continued to fight but was eventually captured by Republican forces. On June 19, 1867, he was executed by firing squad in Querétaro, Mexico, marking the end of the Second Mexican Empire.

Legacy:
Maximilian is often seen as a tragic figure—a well-meaning but ultimately doomed ruler whose idealism and European background were ill-suited to the complex realities of Mexican politics. The coin appears to originate from 1865 although I cannot say if this is an original or a later replica coin. It is set with dramatic prongs which curve to create a flower-like halo.
