An exceptionally rare vintage Marcel Boucher Moghul-inspired Arts of Antiquity necklace and matching earrings, complete with the original collection booklet and earring display card! This extraordinary set captures the richly jeweled appearance of traditional Indian Mughal jewelry through colorful simulated gemstones, green enamel, detailed gold-tone metalwork, and unusual projecting bullet cabochons.
The 15-inch articulated necklace features individually linked square panels decorated with rhinestones, imitation pearls, and raised stones in ruby red, coral, emerald green, turquoise blue, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple. The distinctive bullet-shaped cabochons and textured metalwork create wonderful dimension. Matching teardrop clip earrings repeat the intricate designs, suspended from polished green bullet cabochons.
The History Behind Boucher's Arts of Antiquity Collection
According to the original accompanying booklet, Marcel Boucher created this Indian-inspired collection after studying an ancient bracelet reportedly more than 500 years old, uncovered during an archaeological excavation.
The original bracelet was described as having an unusual green finish created by applying a paste of crushed gemstones to gold. Boucher interpreted the design into a coordinating necklace, bracelet, and earrings, incorporating the rich colors, elaborate ornamentation, and decorative traditions associated with Moghul-style jewelry.
The collection was also inspired by Navagraha, the nine celestial influences of Hindu astrology. Boucher's literature identifies simulated ruby, pearl, coral, emerald, topaz, turquoise, sapphire, amethyst, and jade, reflecting the symbolic gemstone traditions of India.
Boucher's Special Karatcloaked Plating
The original booklet also describes Boucher's proprietary Karatcloaked plating process, promoted as providing a substantial coating of precious metal across all surfaces, including exposed edges comparing its plating method with metal-coating technology employed in spacecraft and electronic computers.
An Exceptionally Scarce Collector's Set!
Remarkably, this set survives in excellent condition with very minimal wear, accompanied by its original Canadian earring display card and Arts of Antiquity booklet documenting the collection's historical inspiration, Navagraha symbolism, and manufacturing techniques.
An extraordinary example of vintage Marcel Boucher costume jewelry combining Moghul-inspired design, unusual construction, and rarely preserved original documentation.
