This outstanding rare vintage Mexican brooch from Casa Prieto features a tribal warrior figure with what appears to be a large headdress!
During the Mexican Silver Renaissance infancy days of design, a silversmith emerged in Mexico City, with a silver shop by the name of Casa Prieto. Although less well-known than some of the other great silversmiths of the time, Casa Prieto is known in collector's circles for having jewelry and other silverware of outstanding design and handmade quality.
This piece is a fine example of Casa Prieto's work with a tribal figure in repoussé, done in sterling silver. This is a large piece with an older "c-clasp." You will notice that the face is slightly off-center, speaking to the handmade nature of this piece. Repoussé is a very labor-intensive process and this particular item has not been found elsewhere online at the time of listing.
You could easily turn this into a pendant if desired. Ask me how!
*This is a preowned vintage item.

🌟 Size: 3" x 3"
🌟 Marked: Prieto Mexico D.F. AVE Juarez 40
🌟 Condition: Excellent. The silver has a patina. The pin stem does not hold tightly into the clasp without being attached to a thicker fabric. This is by design. It will hold secure when attached to a thicker fabric due to tension.
