Hobe

Hobe Jewelry was founded by Jacques Hobe in Paris around 1887, and his son, William Hobe, continued the legacy by establishing the American counterpart, Hobe et Cie, in 1927. William immigrated to the United States in the early 1920s, initially selling theatrical costumes and soon creating costumes and jewelry for the renowned Ziegfeld Follies. By the early 1930s, Hobe's designs gained traction in retail and the theatrical and film industries, attracting starlets and models who adored the historically accurate and authentic-looking pieces. By the 1950s, Hobe was designing for Hollywood icons like Bette Davis. The company remained a family business, with William's sons Donald and Robert taking over in the 1960s, followed by his grandson James in the 1980s. Known for high-quality costume jewelry using premium materials such as platinum, semi-precious stones, and vermeil, Hobe's pieces are treasured for their elegance and historical craftsmanship. The company was sold in the late 1990s or early 2000s, but its mark remains a symbol of timeless glamour.
