Rare Vintage Josane Art Glass Rose & Rhinestone Brooch!

A spectacular and exceptionally hard-to-find vintage Josane brooch, built around hand-worked art glass cabochons containing delicate pink roses and green leaves. The floral decoration is within the glass rather than transfer-painted onto the surface, created using applied glass/stringer work, and the cabochons are surrounded by white glass flowers and sparkling pink and green crystal rhinestones. Even better, some of the green rhinestones are UV reactive and glow under blacklight!

The workmanship on this piece is extraordinary, from the elaborate dogtooth settings to the dimensional arrangement of glass and rhinestones. It survives in phenomenal vintage condition, particularly impressive for such an elaborate piece.

Josane is one of the more mysterious names in vintage costume jewelry. The mark is documented by Costume Jewelry Collectors International, but very little verified company history has surfaced. Period examples attributed to Josane include elaborate rhinestone brooches, earrings and sets dating primarily to the 1950s–1960s, and surviving signed pieces appear comparatively infrequently today. Many pieces are found within Canada, leading me to speculate that this may have been a Canadian designer.
